My Background
I wasn’t always a writer.
In fact, I failed Freshman English in high school. I can’t even recall whether I passed the remedial English course I was forced to take. When I left high school at age sixteen, and at age seventeen took a job at a steel foundry to support my young family, there was not much reason for anyone to think I would become a writer.
